I may or may not agree with Alan Dershowitz

….but the man has no credibility. Zero. Zilcho. And I’m not even talking about the Pete Rose mock trial. We could catalog his various histrionics and attention-whoring and we could do it extensively, but we won’t. We’ll just call attention to his appeal to partisanship over Larry Summers resigning as Harvard President. We’re not gonna defend Larry Summers on these pages, that’s for the likes of Andrew Sullivan and other cobags that want to make him a token for their various agendae. We admit that Prof. Summers remarks about women in the sciences were not only ill-advised, but they weren’t scientific either. Let’s go to munchload Dershowitz:

[Now with UPDATE!!!!!!!!! (and backstory)]

“Radical academics do not, of course, burn down buildings, at least not since the 1970s. Instead they introduce motions of no confidence and demand resignations of those who offend their sensibilities (while insisting on complete freedom of speech for those with whom they agree — free speech for me but not for thee!).”

By this argument it should be perfectly fine for Larry Summers to expound on the inferiority of race X at a conference for people studying race X issues, and to do so with absolutely no data and to be speaking as the President of Harvard, not as cobag-on-the-street Larry S. Also, it somehow is not within the rights of the Harvard Arts and Sciences Faculty to have a no-confidence vote for their president, because that is somehow not permissable under some unwritten douchebag Dershowitz code. Three Bulls! says this to Dershbag, don’t hate the playas, hate the game. You don’t like the rules that ousted Capt. Foot-in-mouth? Change them. Sorry that the Law school and idiot B-school (here’s your degree, Dub! Go run the country!) can’t run the show. Why don’t you go find the real killers, loafwad.

Er, I guess I don’t agree with the little goblin.

UPDATE!

Josh Marshall rides our coatly tais, and Matty Y. hops on the Three B. Summers gate bandwagon.

  • Yet another bit of bizarre rightism: conflation of non-government agencies with government agencies in the Constitutional rights… Unless it isn’t convenient (see: “Freedom of association”).

I think the one thing I found most objectionable in that editorial was the notion that the anti-Larry Summers voice was that of a singularity. I know people that hated Larry Summers and they transcended gender, study, and politics. A chumpwad is sometimes just a chumpwad. Sure there are radical anti-Larry voices at Harvard that I actually disagree quite a bit with, but that doesn’t invalidate the entire group (over 50% of Harvard faculty).

One of the ironies of the villification of Summers is that he was able to move quite quickly on some of this more ambitious projects over the last year or so. It’s not like he could ever do right wih the Harvard community, so he went ahead with some projects, even if they weren’t popular. I’m actually quite impressed at some features of the happenings over in the new Allston campus and the plans for the Harvard Stem Cell Institute. I suspect that Larry’s bosses knew his resignation was inevitable and chose to let him stay over the last year to get some of these things done.

  • I’ll leave the Summers debate to you Ivory Towerists, but will add that Dershowitz blew it in my book for eternity and a day with his “torture warrants” argument. Utter douchebag with no business EVAR opining on the law after that one.

  • I had that torture warrant stuff in the back of my mind, but for some reason I could only think about OJ. UC totally has the debate in a nutshell. Dershowitz’s cobaggery is apparent in that his argument is Horowitzian in its lameness: “partisanship and political correctness and hard-left vs. center” STFU, cockwad!

  • checkity check your e-mail, 3bulls!

i’m sending you the little plugin which lets you read more on the frontpage itself.

  • hey aif, i saw that at your place- I looked at it longingly….thanks!

Dude, we’re at war. This is no time to question the authority of the President. I guess the people that wanted Summers removed just don’t support the troops, huh?

According to the MSNBC commentary (which I only heard because I was setting up my VCR to tape curling this morning), that is exactly the case. A vote against Larry Summers was a vote for the terrorists and against the US of A.

  • jexter interviews Alan Dershowitz:

jexter: “Allen Dershowitz, what’s up with that jurassic beaver I saw you with last night?”

Dershowitz: ” That was no jurassic beaver, that was my wife!”

  • Dershowitz: “Also, my wife is NOT pregnant”

I love how jex wrote Allen to legally protect himself.

  • I was dis’n that sucka!

  • jexter, did you set the KACs on that dershowitz fool, or does the world still have to deal with him?

  • Am I a cobag because I think the Art of Noise is kinda cool?

  • Larry Summers has Aspergers.

How dare you people mock him for his disability!

  • What about the shrivelled leprechaun lawyer? Do his developmental deformities prevent us from hammering that dude?

    Answer: no.

Dershwad could be hung like Jim Thome and that wouldn’t prevent us from calling a desiccated magical irish midget a dessicated irish midget of magic.

  • And Jim Thome is hung how exactly? Are you moonlighting as a Phillies beat reporter and hanging out in baseball lockerrooms, PP?

And must we bring the sidhe into all this?
